Thirteen thousand Christmas lights helped Crestchic Wireman raise over thirteen thousand pounds for charity!
Tony Murfin, a Wireman at Crestchic’s Burton HQ workshop, has raised £13,175 for the Air Ambulance thanks to his involvement in decorating homes and streetlamps with over 13-thousand lights along Lansdowne Road, Branston, Burton-upon-Trent, in Staffordshire.
The festive season started early for Tony and his neighbours as the mammoth task of setting up the lights began at the end of October. “There’s around 33 households that get involved in this project,” began Tony. “I’ve been doing this for the last four years now and it does bring our community together – the kids love it!”
“There’s even an old guy who’s about to turn 101 and we decorate his house for him so he could be included in the festivities.”
The lights are illuminated by the street’s residents and money is collected for charity from local visitors and some who literally travel from places around Europe to see the lights. “We had a couple from Germany who video called their friends in Milton Keynes to show them the display. Their friends then travelled up to take a look,” mused Tony.
Crestchic Wireman, Tony has been interviewed by the BBC Midlands News and Radio BBC Derby, Capital radio and Heart FM.
“I’m always asked if it costs a fortune to have these lights on, but I can assure you they all use low-voltage lights, so it’s really not too bad!”
Tony says the reactions are always outstanding, which encourages him to keep doing this each year!
