FOOTBALL FAN MICK WOODS SCORES 30 YEARS WITH CRESTCHIC
Mick Woods, Load Bank Technician at Crestchic, is celebrating 30 years’ service with the Burton-based load bank manufacturer.
Mick, a spritely 68-year-old, is perfectly at home with his role that has evolved, along with the company, over the last 30-years.
“When I started with Crestchic back in November ’86, the company was a lot smaller and my job was simply to deliver small portable load banks, probably no bigger than 200kW in size, to customer sites within the UK and install them.”
In the years prior to Crestchic, Slough-born Mick was a Taxi Driver. He quips: “Today my job still sees me out on the roads meeting tight customer deadlines, but instead of rushing a passenger to the airport, I’m normally found hauling huge specialist load bank equipment to a client’s site.”
Now a few years beyond retirement age, Mick could have taken the option to leave, but – to the relief of his bosses, decided to stay on.
“I love my job just as much as I love my garden and allotment, but my real passion is football. Since moving to the Midlands in my early 20’s, I started to follow Derby County and have held a season ticket for as long as I can remember. Even with this in mind, it isn’t tempting enough to give me reason to stop working. I simply enjoy the people I work with and the job!”
Over the years, Mick has seen Crestchic grow into a leading global supplier of specialist load bank equipment, designed to test generators, UPS and turbines under a controlled load.
Jo Price, Crestchic’s Rental Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure having Mick on the workforce. He’s honest, reliable and hardworking – you really can’t ask for more than that in any employee. Crestchic grew from a family-run business with solid and respectable ethics. I’m happy to say that we still embody that culture today and I truly believe that it is the fundamental reason why we retain our highly knowledgeable and valued staff members for such a long time.”
